The high-quality boar bristles are of medium hardness and predominantly from the first cut (i.e., with the light-colored tip of the original root of the bristle). They grip the hair well and even reach the scalp, provided the hair isn't too thick or curly (...in which case, only the much more expensive brushes with Himalayan-quality bristles will help...).
