We have modeled this special piece of furniture for storing wet shaving utensils on old models.
The box, made of solid wood, is divided into six compartments of varying sizes, where shaving brushes, razors, strops, and other items find their home after the work is done. A fold-out mirror (a real glass mirror, of course) integrated into the lid assists with shaving. The interior of the shaving cabinet is carefully lined with gray felt. The exterior is painted matte black.
Both the mirror's suspension and the lid's hinges are elaborately crafted brass mechanisms. When closed, the lid is protected from accidental opening by four small but powerful magnets.
The Dr. Dittmar wet shaving furniture was handcrafted and plastic components were completely omitted.
The different components have the following internal dimensions (from top left to bottom right):
1. Long compartment left: 185mm x 55mm
2. Narrow compartment (for razor): 185mm x 13mm
3.Square compartment right: 92mm x 92mm
4. Rectangular compartment south of it: 92mm x 42mm
5. Rectangular compartment further south: 92mm x 36mm and finally:
6. Long horizontal compartment towards the lid opening: 177mm x 48mm.
All compartments are 45mm deep.
The furniture with external dimensions of 270mm x 207mm x 80mm has a total weight (empty) of about 1.4 kilograms.
Note: This piece isn't really recommended for travel. Firstly, it's quite heavy, and secondly, the box isn't impact-resistant. But then again, you wouldn't be taking your bedside table with you in your luggage.
