In the beginning there was the horn...
...and then Dr. Dittmar came along, cut off the tip, and made a shaving brush out of it.
Unlike other "horn tip" shaving brushes, we only use genuine, original tips of Asian water buffalo horn.
So we need a whole horn for each horn (other manufacturers also turn the shape of the handle from other parts of the horn).
The advantage of our manufacturing method is that the horn retains its natural grain, almost never cracks, and each brush is shaped like its buffalo horn tip. Thus, each piece we make is unique.
The disadvantage is that you can only make a single horn-tipped shaving brush from one horn. (We also use the rest of the horn, of course, but for other shaving brush handles.)
The length and diameter of the handles vary, but are usually within the following ranges:
Brush handle length: 90 -100 mm
Diameter of brush handle at the thickest point: 35 - 40 mm
The brushes are made with our hand-tied brush heads with a 22 mm ring diameter. They are available with either a premium silvertip or a two-band silvertip.
