This means the bag is sewn from only three pieces of leather: one per side and one for the base. The larger the pieces of leather used, the more difficult it is to find flawless leather.

The advantage, apart from the fact that it looks better if the bag is not sewn together from small pieces of leather, is that seams that aren't there can come undone.
