Sure, you can lather your shaving soap in other containers. But it works better in a soap dish that's large enough to prevent the lather from overflowing and that allows enough room for the brush head to move.
This very large shaving soap bowl is ideal for brush heads with a ring diameter of 24mm or more.
The lid prevents the shaving soap from drying out too quickly, which speeds up lathering the next day and, of course, prevents dust from settling (if you're planning on growing a three-day beard).
Since the bowl is made of stainless steel, nothing can rust or tarnish - an advantage over chrome-plated or nickel-plated bowls made of non-stainless metals.
The small knob for lifting the lid is made of solid brass (chrome-plated) - and not of pressed sheet metal, as is the case with many other metal bowls.
This bowl is also ideal for use with Dr. Dittmar Special Shaving Soap Flakes. These are available in a 1-kilo package for just €8.50/100g (€85 per kilo of soap).
